What does the personal licence cover?
The personal licence holder training course is a 1-day intensive course that covers all of the essential aspects of handling and selling alcohol responsibly. During the day you’ll learn:
- Nature, purpose and period of validity of a Personal Licence
- The legal duties of a personal licence holder
- The nature and strength of alcohol and the effect on the body
- The law in relation to premises licences
- The role and responsibilities of the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS)
- The law in relation to the protection of children
Who is the APLH Level 2 suitable for?

Applying for your personal licence after the course
Once you’ve completed your personal licence holder course, you can apply to your local council to hold a personal licence. Your application will require a criminal record check and declaration, and you’ll need to submit passport-approved photographs. Your application will need to be submitted to the relevant licensing authority, and there will be a cost associated with this.
