Lifejacket Service and Maintenance Safety Service
Why choose national Lifejacket Servicing providers when you can work with a local business that provides a personal service? Our clients have emphasised the need for local support, and we are here to offer exactly that. Our service works with you and your clients to ensure your jackets are in tip-top condition when you need them. We also offer a free loan service (up to 6 Lifejackets) if required to keep your crews afloat whilst we test and service our lifejackets
Why Lifejacket Servicing Matters
Lifejackets save lives—but only if they work properly. In the UK, cold water shock and drowning remain major risks for anyone on or near water. A Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) review found that up to 180 lives (82% of cases reviewed) could have been saved over a 10-year period if lifejackets had been worn and were functional. RNLI checks in 2014 revealed that 587 out of 6,752 lifejackets inspected might have failed due to missing or discharged CO₂ cylinders.
UK Regulations and Recommendations
Commercial vessels: Annual servicing is mandatory under SOLAS and MCA guidelines.
Leisure craft: Annual servicing is strongly recommended by MCA and manufacturers.
Certification: Approved service stations issue certificates confirming compliance and functionality.

Why You Should Service Your Lifejackets
-

- Legal compliance: Required for commercial operations under MCA and SOLAS.
- Extended lifespan: Regular servicing prevents premature failure.
- Peace of mind: Knowing your lifejacket will work when needed.
-
At the March 2025 Lifejacket Clinic held at Fowey Lifeboat Station, RNLI volunteers and Ocean Safety Ltd inspected 169 lifejackets:
- Over 50% had critical faults that could have caused failure in an emergency.
- 11 lifejackets were condemned outright.
- 51 required new activation capsules, and 26 needed replacement CO₂ cylinders.
RNLI also reported that across the South West in 2025, 803 lifejackets were checked and 523 (nearly two-thirds) were faulty. These figures highlight the urgent need for regular servicing and local expertise.
