What is the STCW Proficiency in Medical first aid course?

The course is for 5 days and will include a dual certification of the MCA Proficiency in Medical First Aid & First Response Emergency Care Level 3. You get a Maritime and Shore Side qualification for one price. So when not at sea you can earn some extra money on the event medical teams.

Recognised and approved Proficiency in Medical First Aid course is for seafarers, although mainly aimed at those responsible for carrying out First Aid duties on ships and boats that venture up to 150 miles from a safe haven, this course could be extremely useful for any person who takes to sea, either with a crew, or as a lone yachtsman.

The Proficiency in Medical First Aid Onboard Ship course is a module of the MCA Chief Mate certification. This MCA First Aid course provides knowledge of giving First Aid safely at sea.

It is designed with seafarers in mind. It covers subjects including; medical emergencies, resuscitation, poisons, temperature extremes, wounds and bleeding, head injuries, fractures and dislocations, and spinal injuries, among other subjects.

What will I learn?

You will learn all about safety on board, how to treat more involved medical emergencies, radio medical advice, types of medication on board, dealing with wth trauma injuries.
