Mental Health Training – It’s OK to NOT be OK

It’s that time of year where stresses heighten and we all suffer a little. Trying to please everyone and rush around, and with additional financial drains.

It’s the same for the Mental Health in the workplace, what are you doing to help your staff through difficult and trying times, to support their Mental Health. With increasing stresses, workloads, time restraints and lower staff numbers. Everyone is doing more for less.

Mental Health is a growing concern and is affecting 1 in 4 of us at some point. Suicide is at an alarming rate. Did you know there are 2 deaths a day by suicide with people who work in the construction sector?? 

So, what can we do to help?

Have you thought about training staff to identify early the simple warning signs of people affected by mental health issues? It’s not all about the classic madness you see on TV. People affected by mental health issues can be trigger by a range of things for example:

  • Financial worries
  • Relationships
  • Bereavement
  • Divorce
  • Moving House
  • Bullying

595,000 case of work-related stress were reported leading to 15.4 million working days lost to depression anxiety

£35bn pound lost to the economy through days off, which equates to £1300 per working person in the UK.

What can Workplaces do?

So, as a workplace, you can create a safe environment for people to be able to talk and gain support when they need it. Put a plan in place for the mental well being of staff. Offer training to support the programme.
