AEDs Save Lives

Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) in Cornwall

Heartsine AED’s save lives.

We are passionate about getting safe, reliable defibrillator units into workplaces.

At Cornwall Training, we have a passion to do things right. We, not only teach the use of Automatic External Defibrillators (AED’S) as a standard on all of our First Aid Courses, we want more businesses to have these lifesaving units available. Our trainers, who are volunteer Community Ambulance Responders, Coastguard Rescue Team members and RNLI lifeboat crew members, see first-hand the results early AED use can achieve. They save lives.

We have taken a stand on this, and have worked with our supplier to bring these AED units to Cornwall at an affordable price. What this means is that, we are going to give you the ability in our “shocking spring offer” excuse the pun!!  So for April, we have discounted the AED units to be more affordable to all.

Our AED units are manufactured by Heartsine and are used as public access defibrillators.

So What does an AED do?

Once the AED is applied it will analyse the electrical activity of the heart. This enables it to see if the heart can be shocked. The shock will stop the heart, allowing the brain to reboot the electrical activity to the heart. Hopefully allowing a normal rhythm to start.  It is more complicated but we like to keep it simple.

Why Should you have an AED on-site?

Or should the question be, “Why wouldn’t you have an AED on-site?” We all know the Ambulance service is already at capacity, and can’t get to everyone in time. By investing in an AED you can be the difference between life and death. More than 3,600 people are resuscitated by ambulance staff every year in the South West because they suffer cardiac arrest. For every minute that passes once in cardiac arrest, a person loses a further 10% chance of survival. This dramatic loss reduces the chance of survival.

Without a doubt, the availability of an AED would improve cardiac arrest survival rates throughout the South West. Early defibrillation can increase survival rates of cardiac arrests if applied within the first 3 minutes. We just know that in Cornwall you won’t get an ambulance to you and the staff member defibrillated in that time.

At Cornwall Training, we lead by example and have an AED in the training centre, for the safety of our staff and students. We have also registered with the Ambulance service under the “Defibrillator Accreditation Scheme” to make it available to local businesses in the event of a 999 call in the area.
