Meet the Training Team
Simon is highly skilled and experienced recreational diver that began his career within the training industry at Warsash Maritime Academy. While at the academy, Simon specialised in Sea Survival, First Aid and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET). During this time he was also involved with Portsmouth and Southsea Volunteer Lifeguards (Portsea Rescue) as a senior helm and trainer on a Ribcraft 585.
Simon has been a Coastguard Rescue Officer since 1996 both on the south coast in Portsmouth and now in Cornwall. Due to operational requirements, Simon focused on mud rescue while on the shorelines of the Solent. He is now a Officer in Charge, Cliff Rescue Technician, Search Technician and water rescue operator on the Cornish coast. He was selected to become an HM Coastguard Casualty Care trainer for the Area 10 Teams. He is also a Community First Responder for South Western Ambulance Service and a CTC medical Services team leader.
Simon’s drive to set up Cornwall Training and Consultancy with Dan was primarily driven by the desire to create a learner focused organisation that provides world class training here in the heart of Cornwall. His role as the companies IQA gives him the opportunity to spend his time focusing on what he believes in the most, quality, due to the quality focus he now also looks after a number of FREC centres in the South West and Wales. He looks after all the clinical governance and kit for the CTC medical services.
Dan joined the British Army in 2001 and very quickly found himself in Iraq as a young 18-year-old solider. He then went on to deploy on a further tour of Iraq and three operational tours of Afghanistan.
After a traumatic back injury, Dan was medically discharged from the Army in 2014 and found a use for his military instructional experience. Instead of teaching battlefield first aid and skill at arms courses to soldiers, young and old, he started teaching civilian first aid and health & safety courses. In 2015 Dan and co-director Simon, created Cornwall Training and Consultancy, a learner focused organisation in the heart of Cornwall.
Dan has since become a Health & Safety Consultant and provides a wide range of services for our large client base. Dan is skilled in occupational health and safety, fire safety and construction health and safety. As well as this, Dan teaches advanced health and safety courses including IOSH, CITB SSSTS & SMSTS, levels 1 – 5 Health & Safety, First Aid and Asbestos and Pre-Hospital Care qualifications.
Dan is an Emergency Medical Technician and a CTC Medical Services team leader. In his spare time, Dan volunteers as a Southwest Ambulance Service Community First Responder and a Health & Safety Governor for a local school academy.
